Well, I was preparing for a trip to Texas to see my mom, and one of her favorite songs got into my head. You know, how songs get into your head and won't go away? She'd lived in England in '46 or '47, and when she saw the Dover cliffs from a ferry, she fell in love with the song, The White Cliffs of Dover.

What do I do to get this damn song out of my head (which, incidentally, is not one of myfavorites--while I like the sentiment, I find the melody rather like glucose syrup)?

I'd do a Bryce piece depicting the cliffs. Not ever having seen them myself, I set out with Sherlock to find some pictures to go by (here's one). During the search, one of the pictures that came up was a previous entry into the Internet Ray Tracing Competition.

The current (at that time) topic for the stills competition was "Landmarks."

Kismet!

...as they say. I would kill two birds with one stone, and submit my first entry to the competition. I came out #69 out of 87 total in the final voting. Not bad for a first attempt? Who knows; I'll be entering again some other time, hopefully with an entry that took a bit more than a week to throw together.

At any rate, as I said in my entry form, my mom will love this one, and that's what matters. :)
