WASHINGTON – Presidential adviser Karl Rove held a press conference Monday announcing a new publicity initiative to boost public morale in the War on Terror.

Called "Pride in the Homeland," the project is set to kick off on September 11, and focuses on television and print commercials designed to instill confidence in the administration.

Rove: "Cool!"

"We've seen a lot of negative posters and flyers distributed and posted throughout the country, and believe this is bad for morale in these troubled times," said Rove. "What this is is a way to 'fight back.'"

The public awareness project will focus on President Bush bravely leading the country to victory and prosperity by fighting a just war against its enemies. Television spots will include a musical number written by Attorney General John Ashcroft, tentatively titled "The Flags Fly High."

When asked about concerns that these tax-funded advertisements could appear alongside campaign ads for the president's re-election, Rove said, "There's no coordination between the White House and Campaign 2004. Obviously, we can't dictate to media corporations about the placement of materials in their own publications, but we trust that they will do the right thing."

Paul Harvey comments on "...the rest of the story."
